Tax Exemptions
Ad Valorem Tax exemptions allowed under statute include governmental, religious,
charitable, educational, scientific, and literary. There is a $25,000 Homestead Exemption
for all Florida residents who own their home and reside thereon. There
is additionally a $500 exemption for widows, widowers, blind, and totally and
permanently disabled Florida residents. There are additional exemptions for
certain disabled veterans.
Lands used for bona-fide agricultural purposes may be classified as
agricultural on the tax roll, which results in a significant reduction from
non-agricultural appraised values. Agricultural classification must be applied
for and determined annually as required by Florida Statutes. The application
deadline is March 1 of each year.
